LOPA WAS FORMED BY FOUR INSTITUTIONS--OCHSNER, TULANE, LSU SOUTH, and LSU NORTH--TO SERVICE A MEDICAL NEED THAT WAS NOT BEING MET IN THIS (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) COMMUNITY. LOPA is THE ONLY ORGANIZATION THAT PROCURES ORGAN and TISSUE DONATIONS FROM DONORS AT THE TIME of THEIR DEATH to USE for TRANSPLANTATION ON OTHER PATIENTS. LOPA OVERSEES THE PROCUREMENT PROCESS AS WELL AS THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS and HANDLING of THE ORGANS and TISSUES BOTH PRIOR to DELIVERY and DURING DELIVERY for TRANSPLANT.
